Top 5 Bakery Picks

There is nothing better than an amazing pastry.  It was one of the things that I was sad about not being able to eat anymore when I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease.  One thing is for sure I shouldn’t have worried because living in the Portland Metro area means that I am thankfully able to find my favorite pastries.  If you are looking for a yummy pastry here are five of the top bakeries on the Westside, and yes my fave gluten free bakery is on the list.

My fave Blue Moon Bakery in Hillsboro – yes they are gluten free

Decadent Creations in Hillsboro – the owner has won Chopped and their macrons are to die for

La Rose Patisserie in Beaverton

Tour de Jours in Hillsboro right across the street from my office in Orenco Station

Carina’s Bakery in Beaverton

When the Moon Hits Your Eye Like a Big Pizza Pie……

Friends if there is one thing I love it is pasta and an amazing piece of garlic bread.  It honestly is the hardest part of having Celiac Disease for me because it means I don’t get to partake in dining at an Italian Restaurant because ya know gluten.  However my husband loves to head out without me and grab some Italian food from one of his favorite places Nona Emila in Aloha.  I honestly can’t fault him for it either because he’s a trooper when it comes to cooking and accommodating my auto-immune disease.   If you’re looking for a good Italian restaurant to grab some take out from you’re in luck.  Here are 5 of my hubbies top faves:

Giovanni’s on SW Broadway in Beaverton

Pastini in Cedar Hill – one of my faves because they do have gluten free pasta.  The pesto is AMAZING!

Mingo on SW Crescent in Beaverton

Nona Emilia in Aloha – my husband’s favorite

Brooklyn Trattoria on NW Bethany Blvd. – Portland aka Bethany

It’s my hope that you find some amazing food that you love and gives you a break from all of the cooking we’ve all been doing.

Who Doesn’t Love Tacos

I know that in our house tacos are a favorite.   For whatever reason they seem to be that one food that brings everyone together.  We love to go out for Mexican food.  It’s always a fun and festive time plus who doesn’t love free chips and guac?  Our family favorite is Margarita Factory however there are lots of great Mexican Restaurants on the Westside.  Here are just a few of our other favorites:

Amelia’s Rustic Mexican Restaurant – Hillsboro

Peppers – Hillsboro

Casa Lola Kitchen de Mexico – Beaverton

La Hacienda Real – Beaverton

El Guajillo – Tigard

I hope that you find a great new restaurant to try, and if you do please let me know how you liked it.

When the Moon Hits Your Eye Like A Big Pizza Pie……….

alexandra-gorn-52jG7-FN22Y-unsplashWhen the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that’s amore.  Oh pizza how I love you.  It is one of my favorite foods to eat.  When I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 6 years ago I was afraid of never getting to eat pizza again.  Thankfully there is gluten free crust, and Tenity’s Pizza and Subs in North Plains offers a gluten free crust.

They offer so many different pizzas, and if you’re a vegetarian they’ve got 6 different vegetarian pizzas.  As far as sub sandwiches goes they have both hot and cold including a New York Meatball sandwich.  MMMM, reminds me of the amazing meatball sandwich I had in Washington D.C.  I’m drooling.  If none of those things sound good, how about a tasty chef salad – just one of their salad options.

In addition to the tasty items above they also offer pizza bread, calzones, desserts and more.  The next time you find  yourself in North Plains be sure to stop by and grab a pie.

If you are looking to feed your pizza craving you can find Tenity’s on Facebook at @TenintysPizzaandSubs 10395 NW Glencoe Road, Ste 600 in North Plains and their phone number is 503-647-5761.

My Picks for Best Pizza on the Westside of the Portland Metro Area

alexandra-gorn-52jG7-FN22Y-unsplashPizza has to be it’s own food group right?  I mean you’ve got all the things you need carbs, dairy and veggies.  Maybe that’s why I love pizza so much, even with having Celiac Disease.   I try hard to find great gluten free pizza, but also have to take the advice of my friends when it comes to their favorite pizza places.  So here are a few of mine, and their favorite places in Hillsboro and Beaverton.

Hillsboro –

McMenamins Cornelius Pass Road House – Their gluten free crust is pretty amazing and I have a thing for their cheese and margarita pizzas.  When you have a handful of restaurants that you routinely eat at and only a couple of things on the menu that you can actually eat, you know that it’s good when I could eat it several times a week and not get tired of it.  When they shut down at the beginning of the stay-at-home order here in Oregon I almost cried.  That’s how much I love their pizza, and you bet I was in their parking lot pretty much within a day or two of them opening up for take out.  That cheese pizza was worth the wait.

Pizzaro – This sweet little wood fired pizza restaurant is located in downtown Hillsboro and before I found out I had Celiac it was one of my favorite places to go and get pizza from.  I know my husband sure does miss getting to eat their pizza.  They do now have gluten free crust, however as with most places they cannot guarantee that it won’t come into contact with gluten so we just haven’t tried them again yet.  Yes I know, I do tend to risk it every now and then even though I shouldn’t.  I’m blessed that my Celiac isn’t horrible.

Jersey Girls – This place is a local favorite for Glencoe High School students as it’s located right across the street, and just so happens to be owned by a parent of a Glencoe alumni who was on the Color Guard.  Jersey Girls started out as a tiny little pizza joint and has grown into a nice little restaurant.  They do have gluten free crust, and it was quiet tasty when I had it during a Nitty Strong Fundraiser last year.

Beaverton –

Maiale Rosa Wood Fired Pizza – Several of my friends say that this is a great place to enjoy pizza, salad or a panini.  They use old world techniques with a modern twist such as offering goat cheese.  They also do catering which is always nice to know for the next big event you may have (when we can have those again).  In addition they have a few desserts one of which is a cannoli and if you’ve ever had a cannoli you know they are AMAZING!

Bellagios Pizza – With several locations throughout the metro area my friends once again recommend Bellagios for not only pizza but sandwiches as well.  They offer gluten free crust which means they just got added to my need to try list, and they offer dough to go.  That makes it super easy to have a make your own pizza night at home.

I know I may not have mentioned your favorite pizza place because there are so many great ones in the metro area.  However, I hope that one of your faves made my list, and if not maybe you have found a new place to try.
