If you are looking for a small town feel, yet want to be close to all the amenities the city has to offer then the City of North Plains may be just what you are looking for. With 2,980 residents, North Plains is a small town who’s residents pride themselves on maintaining the small-rural community feel. There are a number of green spaces located through out the city which help to maintain the character of a small town. The main green space is located at the Jessie Mays Community Center on Hillcrest Street. During the summer months the local residents enjoy concerts in the park, and you will find local children enjoying the playground area or playing a game of basketball.
Jessie Mays Community Center is also the location for the North Plains Garlic Festival which is traditionally held the second weekend in August. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the craft and food vendors, as well as live musical performances through out the three day event. You don’t want to miss out on trying some garlic beer or garlic ice cream, or one of the fan favorites, garlic chicken, garlic green beans and garlic mashed potatoes from the Knights of Columbus.
One of the benefits to North Plains is that it is a small town that really doesn’t feel like a small town. Located off Highway 26 residents have easy access to Intel, Nike, Genentech, as well as other diverse industry and shopping throughout the metro area. North Plains is approximately 15 miles from Portland, 6 miles to Hillsboro, 9 miles to Pacific University in Forest Grove, and a little over an hour away from the Oregon Coast.
Residents and visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities as well. Bike riders can be found on our rural roads rain or shine, and they often stop off at the Rouge Brew Pub (not affiliated with Rouge Brewing) after their ride for a bite to eat or a beer. Yes, they do serve Rouge Beer for those of you wondering. For those who are interested in a glider or sailplane experience you will find the North Plains Gliderport, and we are a golfers paradise with Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course right in our backyard. If you are a fan of events like the Warrior Dash Hornings Hideout is for you, as it has hosted this event in years past. In addition, to hosting the Warrior Dash, Hornings Hideout is a popular wedding venue, and is open for camping, fishing, as well as disc golf. With so much to offer you can see why North Plains is truly a special place to live, and why I love calling it home.
