Several years ago thanks to a Groupon I found yoga, however do not practice as much as I should. There are so many great videos online to help you with your yoga practice, however I know that having an actual instructor help you through the flow be it in person or virtually can be so beneficial. If you are looking for something new to add to your fitness routine I’ve got four local recommendations for you:
Ether & Stone
Located in Orenco Station in Hillsboro they offer classes for beginners to advanced level 2 Warrior Flow classes. They even have yoga for kids which I think is amazing. I know that with kiddos sitting at computer screens more due to distance learning yoga might be a great activity for them.
Pure 8 Hot Yoga
Located in Beaverton they offer both in studio and virtual classes. They have different pricing packages that include both in studio and virtual classes or you can choose just virtual classes. I love this option because it allows you to access the fitness program in a way that you are comfortable.
There studio is located in Beaverton, however due to COVID all classes are currently online. You are able to choose to have access to the virtual classes via recording only or live interactive classes with access to recordings.
This is where I got hooked on yoga thanks to that Groupon I mentioned. Located in Hillsboro you are able to attend classes in person or via live stream. I fell in love with their studio. There are so many windows and because it is located on the second floor of the building it is in you have some amazing views, and this time of year is gorgeous because you get to see all of the leaves changing color on the trees. Oh and if you get the chance to take a class from Cindy Stockdale I highly recommend it.
No matter what your fitness level yoga is a great practice to add into your daily life.
It’s November and that means the holidays will be here before you know it, and while the holidays will be looking different this year we all still want to look good right? So this month I’m going to be sharing my favorite places to get your glam on at on the Westside. Today we’re starting off with my new waxing studio – Revival Waxing Studio. Jill Christensen is the owner and she is absolutely amazing.
Jill was recommended to me by my former Esthetician Katie moved to Southern Oregon. I was heartbroken when Katie told me she was moving as she had been my go to gal for the nine years I have lived here on the Westside. I was sad to be losing my gal but I was more sad that I was losing my friend. You all know that your peeps that do your hair, waxing, nails, etc. become your friends and are a part of your life for all major events right? However I totally knew that Katie would hook me up with the perfect human to take her place, and boy did she.
Not only does Jill do waxing but she also offers lash lifts and lash tinting. Um if you’ve never tried this it’s pretty amazing. Talk about not needing mascara. She also does brow tinting which I recently had done. It’s a total game changer. I have very light brows so having them tinted has meant not as much brow pencil work needs to be done. I know that some may not understand the power of having your brows or other parts of your body waxed but let me tell you it can make you feel great.
Revival Waxing Studio is currently located in Historic Downtown Hillsboro but will be moving to a new location in Hillsboro in December. Jill will be moving to Glam House Studios who I’m excited to feature as my business of the week next week.
One of my favorite things about living on the Westside is that when my husband and I are looking to go out for a date night we can stay on the Westside or we can head into Downtown Portland and enjoy the city. I honestly have to say there is something special about Downtown Portland and the uniqueness of all of the bridges, waterfront and the feel of the older buildings.
Sometimes when we go out for a date night it’s because my husband is looking for a good steak. Thankfully there are so many amazing places to choose from. Here are a few:
Ringside Steakhouse on West Burnside
El Gaucho on SW Broadway
Urban Farmer on SW Morrison
Laurelhurst Market on E Burnside
And if you aren’t feeling like venturing into Downtown Portland here are a few great places right here in our own Westside backyard:
Broadway Saloon and Steakhouse on SW Broadway in Beaverton
Grill 68 on SW Barrows Rd in Beaverton
Orenco Station Grill on NE Cornell
Halloween is Saturday and one of the big Halloween events is Haunted Houses. I know they’ll look different this year but here is a list of some amazing Portland area Haunted Houses that you can check out and get your scare on:
The Fear PDX
13th Door Haunted PDX
Creatures of the Night
Sauvie Island Haunted Corn Maze
Please note that many of these haunted houses do require tickets to get in because of COVID and some of them are close to selling out for this weekend. Hopefully you’ll be able to find somewhere to get your scare on at.
I am that person on your gift list that LOVES unique jewelry. I do not want to wear something that I’m going to see on every other person out there. Case in point on year for Mother’s Day my daughter bought me T-Rex earrings from Coach because I saw them in the store and fell in love. Plus how many people are going to wear T-Rex earrings. Hmmmm maybe I need a T-Rex costume to go with them? That’s a whole nother story.
So since I love unique jewelry I love to find local artists who make amazing jewelry to give to those hard to shop for women on my gifts list. We all have them, the ones that have everything. Therefore when I found this week’s Local Etsy Shop of the week I knew I had to share. It is Asakawa Silver located in Hillsboro, OR. I am more than a little bit obsessed with the bee earrings.
The owner/artist is Monte Gueber and he takes his inspiration for the unique pieces he creates from the world around us. From beautiful butterflies to honeycombs there is certainly a unique piece of jewelry for someone on your gifts list.
