So far this month we’ve explored three amazing parks, and it’s time for the last one in April – Rood Bridge Park. Located in Hillsboro, Oregon the park is 59 acres and with three different loops:
- Eastside Loop .28 miles
- Woodland Pond Loop .26 miles
- Lakeside Loop – .66 miles
As you explore each of these loops you will be treated to different developed areas and natural areas of the park. There is a soft surface path that will lead you around wetland and wooded areas as well as the Tualatin River. Should you need a rest or want to take in the beauty of nature there are many benches throughout the park for you to relax on.
The park features a large rolling lawn that is perfect for picnics and other activities. You can view the rhododendron garden that encompasses 1.5 miles of the park. The rhododendrons bloom from early spring through fall.
As you explore the natural areas of the park be aware that these paths are dirt/gravel and will become muddy during the rainy season so dress accordingly with your shoe choices.
There is a pavillion on the north end of the developed portion of the park that will provide you with views of the pond, and can be rented out. If the pavillion is too much for your needs there are numerous picnic tables as well as three large covered picnic areas. These areas can be reserved from April 15 – October 15 and they begin taking reservations starting in January of the same year.
If you bring the kiddos there is a playground with a wood chip surface that includes two play structures as well as a swing set.
In addition there are two tennis courts. The River House which is perfect for meetings, rentals weddings, and more. And do not forget the water craft launch for non-motorized watercraft to access the Tualatin River.
How fortunate are we to have so many beautiful parks in our own backyard? Rood Bridge Park is located in Hillsboro at 4000 SE Rood Bridge Road.
