My step-mother-in-law is an avid quilter and several years ago when we were visiting I caught the quilting bug along with my daughter. Sarah loves to have each of the grandkids practice sewing a quilt block when they visit, and in general loves teaching them to sew. During this visit before we left she sat both of my kiddos down at the sewing machine and had them sew. That day on our way home from Redmond, my daughter declared that she wanted to learn to quilt. Thus started the process of teaching ourselves how to quilt. We found a website and got started, then came the obsession with quilt shops.
I found Sharon’s Quilt Attic thanks to the Westside Quilter’s Guild . The store is quite large with lots, and lots, and lots of different fun fabric choices for your projects. In addition I also love that they have items for hand embroidery which is nice as I know that some quilts do have embroidery on them, or if you like to do embroidery it’s a great place to shop. Another reason I love this shop is that they do long arm quilting. When I have smaller quilts such as lap size or baby quilts I do not mind quilting them myself on my sewing machine. However anything bigger than that needs to done on a long arm quilt machine. I even had the pleasure of taking a class on long arm quilting here. If I had tons of space I think it would be fun to have a long arm quilt machine, however since I do not it is up to someone else to do this for me. And who am I kidding, time isn’t always my friend so it’s just easier to have someone else do it. Speaking of classes, if you are looking for some fun classes to take to learn new skills they’ve got options. From fun quilt classes, to embroidery classes to an evening a month to come in and finish up some projects that are in progress. It’s a great way to get a project complete while meeting new friends or catching up with those you already know. I know you’ll have a great time.
In recent years many of the quilt shops I knew and loved have gone out of business due in part to the availability of quilting supplies on the internet. I am so thankful for this great little local shop. If you’d like to visit, Sharons Quilt Attic is located at 2950 SE Cornelius Pass Rd., #100.
